Effective Interview

I am getting interviews, but not job offers.

Congratulations, getting interviews should be considered a major accomplishment in your job search process.  It means that your resume, marketing strategies and networking efforts are working for you.  Effective interviewing is the last piece of the job search puzzle.

What can I do to improve my interviewing skills?

The first step is to identify what is holding you back?  Usually it’s one of two things:

  • Your marketing material or what makes you stand out to a prospective employer.
  • Being able to sell it.

How do you help your clients overcome this last hurdle?

The above bullets can be overcome by addressing one element.  Preparation! We work with our clients to prepare them for the interview.

  • Step one: Review the marketing material (resume, branding, etc.).   Does it differentiate you from your competition?  Does it make you stand out?  This is a hard requirement in being able to sell yourself to a prospective employer.  We work with the client to ensure that they have this advantage over the competition.
  • Step two: Know how to articulate this advantage confidently.  We work with our clients to maximize confidence and minimize nervousness.   This is accomplished by developing narratives from the marketing material and practice them until they become second nature.
